Launching in February 2011, Google Panda is one of Google’s most significant spam-fighting algorithms, and now it’s officially part of Google’s core ranking algorithm – another sign that quality is key when creating content for your website.

It was first reported on by Jennifer Slegg, who wrote a Google Panda guide that included this statement:

“Panda is an algorithm that’s applied to sites overall and has become one of our core ranking signals. It measures the quality of a site, which you can read more about in our guidelines. Panda allows Google to take quality into account and adjust ranking accordingly.”

Although it’s now part of the core algorithm, it doesn’t mean that it updates in real time., it’s just no longer a spam-fighter that’s applied after the core ranking algorithm has done its work.

Over-time, we’ll have to figure out if the update was an update of the Panda part of the algorithm or not. More information will come about this over the coming months, we expect, so keep your eyes peeled, SEOs.
