Pinterest implemented a skin tone search feature in a number of countries, including the UK and USA. This feature allows users to filter their beauty related search results by skin colour.
This is designed so that users can see the best representation of themselves when looking for specific types of products. With more than 80 million Pinners searching for beauty ideas each month, it’s important that the results are relevant to each user. The feature has now been expanded to a further 13 countries, including much of Europe and parts of South America.
Since the launch of this feature, Pinterest has seen a 5x increase in Pinners using it. Pinterest has stated that it can be hard to feel inspired when you don’t see yourself in the results. So this feature is part of their plan to make the platform even more inclusive and inspiring.
