Spotify is entering the social audio space with their new social audio app Greenroom.
Greenroom will allow users to turn their live chats into podcast recordings. Greenroom hosts a large range of general interest groups on a variety of topics. Users can join and host live conversations with people from all over the world.
Users can join Greenroom with their Spotify credentials. When you first login, you’ll be guided through an onboarding process. This allows the app to be tailored to your interests. Greenroom has the same key features as other social audio apps, such as Clubhouse. Rooms can currently hold a maximum of 1,000 participants.
The key differentiator between Greenroom and other social audio apps is the ability to turn conversations into podcasts. The live sessions are recorded by Spotify so that they can easily be turned into podcasts. This basically reduces barriers into podcast hosting to almost nothing. Greenroom also features a live text chat, this allows participants to actively engage without having to fight to be heard.
Initially, Spotify is incentivizing the use of Greenroom with a creator fund. The creator fund is set to open this summer, although you can sign up in advance.
