YouTube has developed a creator fund of $100m for YouTube Shorts creators. This fund will be distributed to creators between 2021 and 2022.
YouTube Shorts are currently available to users in India and the US. Since launching, YouTube has been reviewing what it means to monetise and reward creators. Anyone is eligible to participate in the YouTube Shorts fund, simply by creating Shorts for their audience to enjoy. Each month YouTube will be reaching out to creators when their Shorts have the most engagement to reward them. These creators will also be asked to provide feedback to improve the experience. Creators do not have to be part of the YouTube partner program to participate.
This is the first method of monetising Short for YouTube. However, they have said this is just the start. So we should expect to see more monetisation options in the future for this feature.
