Google has announced that their news showcase feature will include paywall articles free of charge. The news showcase is a program where Google pays publishers to license their content for the format.
Google is paying publishers to provide ‘limited access’ to paywall articles but users will still need to register with the publishers to read the content. Google is in the process of bringing this tool to new devices and channels. Since launch in October they have also doubled the number of news partners involved. With nearly 400 publishers participating in the program.
