WordPress announced a new feature for Twitter called Tweetstorm. This tool would allow users to publish blog posts to Twitter. Initially users were excited by this tool, however that quickly changed when the downsides of this feature were considered.
This new feature was intended to get content in front of a new audience without having to direct them off the platform. However, Twitter allows content from its platform to be embedded on other sites. Essentially allowing other users to republish your content on their own site. Due to Twitter allowing content embedding, this could make it extremely difficult to file a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint.
Another flaw in this new tool is the lack of cross-site canonicals. You can’t add any kind of tag to the content to indicate the original publisher. Overall this new feature risks losing control of your content and copyright with many WordPress users completely against it.
