YouTube has updated their terms of service. They will now be running ads on non-monetised channels and those creators won’t be getting paid for the ads on their videos.

Users usually sign up to the YouTube Partner Program once they meet the requirements. This allows YouTube to show ads on their videos but they do receive a portion of revenue. Most non-monetised channels haven’t reached the requirements for the program, but now ads will be shown on their videos anyway.

Agreeing to the terms of service is mandatory so users have no choice but to consent to the new section titled ‘Right to Monetize’. Creator’s won’t be notified when ads begin to be shown on their content, but they should be aware that this could happen at any time.
