In December 2017, Bing released a new ‘Intelligent Search’ which is powered by AI to make your searching smarter. Similar to Google’s AI and machine learning, Bing aimed to bring faster, exact answers to users.
One feature to come from this was ‘Intelligent answers’, whereby users can type a question into Bing and get returned a definitive answer. For example, you can ask ‘When is Easter 2018’ and find the below answer. However, the answers go deeper than this by collecting results from the most reputable sources, or compiling results into a fact list.
On top of smarter answers, Bing transformed image searches with image recognition technology. In this, Bing will detect objects in images that you search for. Below is a great example.
Bing have enhanced their Intelligent Search with the use of Intel FPGA’s (Field Programmable Gate Arrays). In simple terms, this accelerates AI capabilities on Intel CPU’s in computers, delivering quick and precise results. This is used to read billions of web pages and analyse them to provide the best result for users.
Intelligent Search New Features
Recently, Bing has launched new features, as stated by Search Engine Land, including;
- A hover-over feature to define unknown words
- A collection of answers for how-to questions
- Object recognition for top fashion trends.
Bing have also released that Intelligent Answers will soon show for ‘How to’ questions. Such as, how to make a cake.
How can this be useful for SEO?
With this smart searching, websites that sit higher in Bing organic rankings have a high chance of being displayed in the Intelligent Answers for users. This in turn could increase traffic to the site and site sessions. However, due to Intel FGPA’s the answer will come from the most reputable site according to Bing.
Intelligent Search is a big step for Bing as they bring their search engine into the decade of AI. Do you think it will overtake Google’s machine-learning algorithms?
